Stock to play with next week: STEM

STEM is a stock that has a healthy average volume and a beta that is perfect for the swong trader. This stock should replace SIRI as the new $.40 play per day and that's exactly how I'm going to play that stock as a $.40 play where i will buy in huge volumes and i will wait for the market to prove me right. Hopefully i will be able to play this stock 2-3 per week and make back about 4% profit per transaction.

RATE is off the table

Much of investing in RATE was based on the idea that RATE would become the next TZOO. Well TZOO's value fell over 20% much like how EBAY fell 20% in value. Each stock did not hit their numbers and the market punished them both. I'm not saying that RATE doesn't have the legs to run to $25, but that momentum that it had in late December/early January is disappearing fast. I'm cutting my losses with only a 12% gain in the "diversified portfolio".

Let's explain our two portfolio that I've created: the Diversified Portfolio and the Swing Portfolio. The Diversified Portfolio is created with the intention of growing initial investment 9% per year using stocks picked from a variety of industries. Let's look at the stocks currently in this portfolio.

NIHD, MNST, ERTS, WOOF, MSVFX, ISWI, PFE

The current standing since inception of this portfolio is 9.10% gain, despite negative gains in WOOF and MSVFX. The length of time each will be held is a minimum of 3 months and each will be expunged at the point they have been held more than a year and qualify as a long-term investment. I thoroughly believe in taking money off the table, otherwise you can never actually realize profits.

The Swing Portfolio is designed to grow cash using investments that involve moderate risk but have return rates of 10%. Money will be invested using an IRA account so that the proceeds can grow tax deferred. The rationale behind this Swing Portfolio is to grow the nest egg aggressively while I'm still young and can afford moderate setbacks. All trades will take costs such as commissions into account.

Markets are going sideways despite good earnings news

PFE is looking real attractive and is trading at 12x earnings. This is now a value play given that it is the #1 pharmacueticals company. I think the smart play is to move in and swoop up this stock while it's so cheap as long as one is ready to hold for at least a year.

Shrimp What?

This video for Notorious MSG was shot by a friend of a friend. The video is a great parody on RUN-DMC and has hilarious lyrics.

Getting back in the market today

So the news from apple is making tech look good again, seems like the market is generally back to normal. Pfizer is taking a beating by the FDA which is driving it's prices down from the mid-26 range now to low-25 range. The trend I've observed is when pharmaceuticals perform well that usually means tech is not and vice versa. So the AAPL momentum must be taking a lot away from pfizer and the drug markets right now. CELG spiked recently on profits forecasts, too bad I wasn't in the game. In general I have a negative outlook on drug stocks simply because there is a lot that can go wrong there.

Stocks in play:
RATE, ISWI

Stocks being observed:
PTR, AAPL, AMZN, IBM

Stocks being observed summary. I'm looking to see if PTR goes to 51. If so then I expect there to be a lot of interest there. AAPL has been streaky, it has dropped to 68 and shot back to 72, so I'm looking for the swing there. If IBM can drop from 93 to maybe 88 then I'm jumping all in on that. It seems to happen to IBM where the price will drop one day per quarter, so I'm hoping to catch it when it does.

RATE up 19% since i started talking about it

So i told you guys this was the next TZOO. It's now about 19% up from when i last told you to invest in this one. I'm not sure if it's going to keep going, but it might. I've sold off a bunch already because i don't want to be greedy, but i have a small amount still riding the wave.

NIHD and RATE are my only things in play right now and so far i've yet to be disappointed. I'm riding these as long as i can.

Stock Market Recap of 1/3-1/7/2005 and This weeks stocks to watch

Recap:
Tracking this weeks past successes and failures. VITX was a successful 10 cent play. ANTP was a successful short. MCLD was an unsuccessful 10 cent play. Otherwise I stayed out of the market for much of the week because of all the economic news surrounding interest rates, inflation and the increase in oil prices. Overall i'd say this week was a down week performance-wise.

Next week:

Speculative Short/Intermediate play:
RATE this one may be the next TZOO, as of 1/8/2005 it's last closing price was $16.30. Beware the beta is 2.46, this one could go either way.

Keeping an eye on NIHD, i think this is a great intermediate/long-term play. It seems unshakeable even in the face of oil, inflation, and interest rate worries. On 1/3/2004, NIHD's stock price was 25.34, it's now double that (50.79 1/5/2004), only one year later!!!!

I also like MW as a intermediate/long term play.

OMG! It's 10PM on Friday and I'm still at work!

I'm sitting here at work, it's 10PM on Friday and I'm not psyched that i'm here. I'm sitting here in my cube listening to itunes as the hotjobs site is being upgraded. I'm responsible as the release manager to make sure that our site is updated with the latest code and that nothing bad happens.

On a more glorious note, i will post what you're all waiting for:
Today's 1linkwonder, it's about whale watching from a kayak (2MB mpeg). I'm not sure if it's fake or not.
